➕ Online Maths Follow Up Task ➕

IALT: reflect and blog about the "Number Ninjas" follow up task.

Today the Number Ninja's follow up task was to complete a task that mostly related to measurement. Measure and timing things using measurement it was hard at first but to add a extra challenge on top of it we decided to instead of working by pen and paper using our Maths book, we decided to for the first time complete a book and pen task digitally online using a Google Document. We typed by hand the questions and options of answers we could use and we also tried our best picking the answer that made sense to myself and my Maths working buddy Leilani. It was hard t first but after getting a clear understanding from each other we were able to discuss our Maths learning, sharing both of our opinions and getting both clearer, better and fresher understandings on what we think and why?!

The first task was hard because it said what type of measurement would we use to time these things and a whole different types of measurements came up and I was able to understand half of what it meant but I still needed to understand the other half. So I talked with my buddy Leilani and turns out I was able to find the other half by getting to share my opinion and getting her to share hers.. Therefore more idea's were extended and collaborated on. This task was hard but we were able to work through it by understanding one another!

Our Maths Follow Up Task...

Follow Up Task - Number Ninjas

  • Milliliter
  • Metre
  • Kilogram
  • Centimetre
  • Millimetre
  • Gram
  • Ton

Which one of the units on the list would you use to measure these?
The time it takes to…

  • Bake a cake  - I think that I would use Grams because Gram is a common measurement of cooking that people would use.
  • Count to ten - I would prefer Centimetres to measure counting to 10 because, in my opinion centimetre is the shortest measurement I would prefer to use.
  • Eat an Ice Cream- I would use Gram instead of ton because a ton of ice cream would be heaps and people would mostly only eat 2 scoops of ice cream.
  • Cycle from Dunedin - Nelson - I would use metre to time this because it’s the furthest measurement I would use other than kilometre.
  • Check your emails - Centimetre because checking my emails doesn’t take long therefore centimetre is a small measurement.
  • Fly from Wellington - Auckland - Metre, because in my eyes out of all the options we have to choose I find that Metre is the biggest measurement out of them all.
  • Play 5 songs from a playlist- I would choose a meter because each song is like about 5 to 7 minutes long
  • Heal a broken bone - I would use a ton, to measure this because healing a bone does take a while, and therefore I find ton as a taking time of a measurement.
  • Blink 10 times - I think that I would use a Centimeter because it’s longer than a millimeter.
  • Grow a large tree - Ton, because it takes a while to grow a large tree, and especially weighing it could be harder than it sounds therefore I would prefer to use a ton to measure this.

Something I found challenging was working digitally online because I was use to writing by hand and not typing by hand! But at the same time it was a new opportunity to develop new skills in learning digitally.

What do you think about this task, and what are some of your feedback on how we can improve better on next time!!!

Please leave a comment below, and many thanks!
