🇹🇴 Food In My Culture - Food Pyramid 🇹🇴

IALT: reflect and blog about the food pyramid I created and places food in from my culture.

Yesterday, Miss Aireen came into Room 9, having a lesson with us about our Inquiry Topic for Term 2, 2017. One main thing she talked about in my perspective was the Food Pyramid.

In the food pyramid there are 5 different layers! In each layer it states food you should eat all or most of the time, to less of time and just eating some of it. Here is a example of the food pyramid...
  • Layer 1 - Vegetables & Fruit
  • Layer  2 - Grain Food & Starchy Foods
  • Layer 3 - Legumes, Fish, Seafood, Eggs, Poultry & Meat
  • Layer 4 - Milk, Yogurt & Cheese
  • Layer 5 - Healthy Oils, Nuts, & Seeds

Our task was to choose 2 foods in each layer for our culture! My culture, or nationality is Tongan. Therefore it was a easy task for me! Probably because I have a lot of peers in my classroom come from the same culture as me (Tonga). Because there were 5 layers in each layer you had to have 2 foods from your culture and place where you think they would go in the food pyramid.. so first we brainstormed 10 foods in the Tongan culture! Which was...
  • Avocado
  • Otai
  • Potato Salad
    Taro Leafs
  • Raw Fish
  • Corn Beef
  • Chop Suey
  • Chicken Soup
  • Pig
With placing them in each layer, came with research and looking for the fat percentage is in the food... In order for it to be in the right layer. Myself, & Ana worked through this together and even though it was hard at times we were able to get help from our peers in the same classroom and that come from the culture as ourselves.

Our Food Pyramid...

What do you think about where we placed our cultural foods?!
And what some foods in your culture?

Please leave a comment below, on what your thoughts are not only were we placed the food but also what types of foods we placed in the food pyramid.

Thank you for viewing.
