🎶Songwriting Lesson Reflection🎶

IALT: reflect on what we did at music, and explain what emotions I felt, and challenges I found challenging.

Today for music, we basically refreshed our memory. By this I mean we had listed what a structure of a song, we came up with...
  • Introduction
  • Chorus
  • Pre-Chorus
  • Bridge
  • Outro
  • Verse(s)
We also brainstormed about something we wanted to write about. Basically we had to come up with a theme, and the example we came up with was BOYS.. we all participated and thought about what we think about what our thought's on them were which were,
  • Ugly
  • Pretty
  • Like Games
  • Sports
  • Television
  • Gay (Not in a bad way)
We were given the choice to pair up with other people, in order to have a better understanding! Me & Ana, choose to brainstorm, and write a song about the OCEAN..

OUR BRAINSTORM!

Caleb our music teacher, asked us to share all our brainstorms, and then after that he had helped us write a perspective a song. For example if you were writing about an object, if your going to write a song about You & The Object, Or are you going to be the object, Or You the Object and Someone else. He talked about how writing from the perspective, it would change you language! We then had to choose which perspective your going to choose to write with. Myself & Ana chose to write about the Ocean's perspective.

Then Caleb went through, how we already have our structure idea's, we now only have to think abut what we can write. If we wanted we could've just used a back-up track already made, and create a melody, or a chorus from the track! We got to choose if we would like to choose to write with lyrics first, but individually I find working with music first much more easier. We could've also used many different backing tracks for example, fast slow, and indifferent notes!

For an example we chose to write with words first. The first thing we had to do was work out our syllables. We had Dark Days, and Cold Feeling, we had to make any random sentence which make sense out of these words which was.. These dark days give you a cold feeling, then we had to think about where the next step is, and what next step we are going to take. Then we described what is the cold feeling, we came with the idea's.. Unhappy, Sad, and also storms. We had to then again make a sentence with those 3 words which were, Unhappy Sad these are my storms. He also talked about how we don't always have to tell our listener about what we're writing about, all we need to do is set a scene. Caleb also talked about how in songwriting, you will only have a certain amount of words to use, and you have to talk about how if their the best powerful words you could use. He talked about how in order to find much stronger and powerful words using, a thesaurus or a dictionary.

Something I enjoyed at songwriting was learning about how we can improve more. I learn that your first few lines doesn't have to have what you're writing about in them, but all you need to do is set a scene.  Something I also enjoyed was learning new things, and working collaboratively with other people in the songwriting group and who also takes the lessons.
